Sub-regional training for negotiators from Western Asia under the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions

Dead Sea, Jordan from 28 to 30 May 2024

Highlights: In order to strengthen the implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS) conventions, there is a need to enhance negotiation skills at meetings of the conventions. The three-day training workshop, combined with an online training component, will aim to enhance the skills and knowledge of government officials to effectively negotiate at various types of meetings across the three conventions and will also touch on chairing basics.

The training will be composed of two sequential components: the completion of the chairs’ online training course , followed by the three-day face-to-face workshop.

Target audience: The training targets government representatives from countries that are Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions. Interested participants should have taken a lead role for their government in the negotiations under the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions in the past, be expected to participate in such negotiations in the future and have a desire to learn about the roles of chairs in such meetings. A good knowledge of English is a prerequisite to participate in the training as negotiations in contact groups or other groups at the meetings of the three conventions are conducted in English and the training will be fully delivered in English.

Organizers: This training is hosted by the Government of Jordan and organized by the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions  with generous financial support provided by the European Union and the Government of Germany.

Working language: English is the working language of the training.
