Outcome

The training was successfully completed in Berlin, Germany by 23 participants from the following countries: Argentina, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Egypt, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Latvia Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Switzerland, Thailand, Uruguay and Vietnam. The training was held on 1-3 February 2017 and addressed key institutions and actors of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions as well as the Minamata Convention and SAICM.

Guided by the regional experts, the participants engaged in a wide range of panel discussions and simulation exercises, which helped them learn and practice how to effectively chair intergovernmental meetings and guide them towards agreeable outcomes. The panel discussions focused on the basic principles of chairing and managing contact group discussions. The simulation exercises provided an opportunity for participants to chair different types of meetings, from a plenary and subsidiary bodies meetings to the contact groups meetings, also covering various issues under the BRS Conventions and Minamata Convention.
